Gokin Solar BC Module Has Passed HW4 Hail Test

Recently, Gokin Solar modules successfully passed the HW4 hail impact test conducted by the SPF Institut für Solartechnik.

Over the decades?long operational life of a photovoltaic power plant, extreme weather remains a critical factor affecting system safety and financial returns. Among the typical environmental risks, hail impact imposes heightened requirements on module structural integrity and performance stability. 


The HW4 hail impact test that Gokin Solar modules recently underwent is an important benchmark in PV module reliability assessment, specifically designed to evaluate a module’s resistance to extreme hailstorm conditions. The test was carried out by the SPF Institut für Solartechnik, a research institute affiliated with the Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences (OST), which has long been dedicated to research, development, and testing in renewable energy technologies. 


During the test, ice balls 40 mm in diameter struck the module surface at a velocity of 27.7 m/s (approximately 100 km/h), simulating the severe environmental stresses that modules may face in extreme hailstorms. Under such high?intensity impact, the Gokin modules were required not only to maintain structural integrity but also to pass subsequent performance verification.

After the ice?ball strikes, the SPF conducted a series of inspections, including insulation performance, wet leakage current, power output, and electroluminescence (EL) imaging, to comprehensively assess the modules’ safety, performance stability, and internal structural condition before and after impact. 


Ultimately, Gokin modules passed all test items with flying colours, retaining excellent performance and structural stability after the high?intensity impact—demonstrating outstanding environmental adaptability and reliable quality.
